Effective particle sizing is the critical first step in extracting maximum value from Incineration Bottom Ash (IBA). The IBA Trommel Screen is a heavy-duty rotary sizing equipment specifically designed to handle the challenging, heterogeneous nature of Waste-to-Energy (WtE) slag.

Unlike standard mineral screens that easily clog when processing wet or sticky municipal solid waste residue, our trommel screens utilize a continuous tumbling motion. This ensures complete material dispersion, allowing fine particles to fall through while coarse slag and large scrap metals are transported to the discharge end. It is the perfect pre-grading solution, preparing optimal feed sizes for downstream Eddy Current Separators and IBA Specialized Crushers.

Core Working Principle in Slag Processing

Raw bottom ash is fed into the rotating drum. As the drum turns, the tumbling action breaks apart loose agglomerates. Fine-grained materials (like ash and small glass fragments) pass through the precisely calibrated sieve holes under the force of gravity and centrifugal rotation. Meanwhile, oversized coarse slag and bulky metals are guided by internal spiral plates to the discharge end. This continuous, automatic process ensures high-throughput sizing without bottlenecks.

Four Core Advantages for WtE Plants

Advantages Specific Benefits for IBA Sorting
✅ High-Efficiency Multi-Layer Grading Available in 1-3 layer designs, separating bottom ash into 2-4 specific particle size fractions simultaneously (e.g., 0-10mm, 10-50mm, >50mm) to feed different sorting lines.
✅ Anti-Clogging Intelligent Design Equipped with external rotating scrapers or comb mechanisms that continuously clean the screen, effectively preventing the clogging common with high-moisture, sticky WtE ash.
✅ Heavy-Duty Durability Constructed with thickened steel drums and highly wear-resistant screen meshes specifically chosen to withstand the severe abrasion from glass, ceramics, and scrap iron found in slag.
✅ Downstream Protection By removing fines early, it significantly reduces wear and tear on subsequent crushers and separators, lowering overall plant maintenance costs by over 20%.

Key Application Scenarios in Resource Recovery

  • Incineration Bottom Ash Pre-Treatment: Efficiently classifying raw slag into defined fractions (e.g., separating 0-10mm fines from bulky metals) to optimize feeding conditions for Complete IBA Sorting Plants.
  • Construction Aggregates from Slag: Preparing cleaned, sized bottom ash to be reused as secondary aggregates in construction materials, preventing landfill disposal.
  • Solid Waste Resource Utilization: Recovering valuable fine-grained materials from aged landfill mining and industrial solid waste.

Designed for Low Maintenance in Harsh Environments

  • Sealed Transmission: Core transmission parts are fully sealed against abrasive dust, extending bearing life by up to 50%.
  • Centralized Lubrication: Greatly reduces daily maintenance workload, keeping the plant running continuously.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why use a Trommel Screen instead of a Vibrating Screen for raw IBA?

A: Raw incineration bottom ash is often wet, sticky, and full of entangling wire and large debris. Vibrating screens easily blind (clog) or suffer damage under these conditions. The tumbling action of a trommel screen actively breaks up sticky clumps and uses a self-cleaning mechanism, making it far superior for primary slag sizing.

Q: Can the trommel screen separate different sizes simultaneously?

A: Yes. Our trommels can be configured with up to 3 different screen mesh zones along the length of the drum. This allows a single machine to output 2 to 4 distinct particle size fractions, perfectly preparing the material for highly sensitive downstream sorting equipment like the Sawtooth Wave Jig.
